Rachel's Reflection
- Tell us about a moment when you stepped out of your comfort zone at work that resulted in a memorable achievement.
- A memorable achievement for me was being trusted to lead the planning of our 2025 EOFY Party and our Christmas Party. Organising these events takes a lot of time, coordination, and attention to detail, with high expectations to create an experience everyone enjoys. Being given this responsibility meant a lot to me. It showed that others had confidence in my abilities, which was both humbling and empowering.
- In the spirit of “Balancing the Scales,” what is one unwritten barrier you encountered and how did you navigate it?
- In the spirit of “Balancing the Scales,” an ongoing challenge I’ve faced is appreciating the full impact of my role as an Administrative Assistant. It’s easy to focus on the behind-the-scenes nature of the work, but I’ve learnt that every contribution is essential for a team to succeed. Without support and coordination in the office, bigger projects and achievements wouldn’t be possible. During International Women’s Week, I reflect on how women in every role (visible or behind the scenes) play a vital part in driving success and creating positive, lasting impact.
- What’s an interesting challenge or ‘puzzle’ you get to solve in your role?
- A daily “puzzle” I like to joke about is why no one seems to know how to stack a dishwasher properly! Haha. On a more serious note, one of the ongoing challenges in my role is maintaining a positive, calm energy throughout the office. I take pride in creating a supportive and uplifting environment so that when my colleagues are tackling complex or high-pressure tasks, they can do so in a space that feels organised, welcoming, and balanced.
- If you could go back to your first day in your career, what three words of encouragement would you give yourself?
- “Confidence is everything” believing in yourself can have a huge impact on your success in any industry and how others perceive you.
- What is an underrated skill essential for long-term success in this industry?
- At Knightcorp, one of our core values is Embrace Authenticity, and I strive to reflect that in my role as an Administrative Assistant and the events we coordinate. Being genuinely myself, approachable, organised, and people-focused, allows me to build strong relationships with colleagues and clients.
- Name a woman you admire and take inspiration from, and why.
- Yayoi Kusama is an extraordinary contemporary artist, best known for her iconic polka-dot art, which was inspired by the hallucinations she experienced as a child. Despite living with severe mental health challenges, including schizophrenia, she has created deeply inspiring and beautiful works of art, which I personally love. Kusama is also an accomplished writer and poet, and she has collaborated with major fashion brands, including Louis Vuitton, bringing her creativity into the world of fashion. Her story is a powerful example of resilience, talent, and the ability to transform personal struggles into groundbreaking art.
- What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
- International Women’s Day, to me, is about celebrating resilience, creativity, and the incredible contributions of women, especially those who have faced challenges. I’m not a feminist in a political sense, but I find it deeply empowering to see women who have overcome personal struggles, balanced family life, and still produced extraordinary work. Their passion and ability to transform adversity into something meaningful remind me of the strength women bring to every field, and it inspires me to bring the same commitment and authenticity into my own life and work.
