In 2024, there were 1,113 breach notifications under the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme, a s25 per cent increase on the year before and the highest since mandatory reporting began in 2018. The trend has only continued in 2025, with high-profile cases involving universities, airlines, pension funds and even luxury retailers making headlines.
